"What does it mean?!"
Sitka's Rally to Restore Sanity
While D.C. was doing their rally with John Stewart and Steven Colbert....Sitka had theirs. My bookstore actually closed for an hour so that we could go do this. :) |

Lovely.
We went for a walk yesterday at Totem Park. Besides the beautiful walk along the shoreline with amazing eye candy...I love that we walked to the site of our WALK. I'm used to getting in the car and driving to places of such beauty. It was about a five to ten minute walk through town to get to this park. I love it!
red crossbill---Trevor has seen many. But a first for me! |
harlequin ducks--another first for me! |
ha.ha. This was my first time being out where I could possibly run into a bear. Not the MOST likely place...but not unlikely. Therefore, I was on high-alert! But I survived. Baby steps. :) |
Last few moments with Oregon plates....for a little while (don't worry Mom!). |
Alaska plates...CHECK! Buy XTRA TUF boots...CHECK! Get Alaska Airlines Visa card...CHECK! |

Happy Alaska Day!
Alaska Day in Sitka. It's a pretty big deal. Sitka is where the transfer of Alaska from Russia took place. |
Life-size whale announcing upcoming WhaleFest; another big event in Sitka. I will be selling books at WhaleFest for the bookstore. |
Where's Trevor??? Oh...there he his!! Yes, Trevor was in the parade! |
After the parade most of the town walked up to this point where the actual transaction between Russia and the U.S. was made. There was a reenactment....that we couldn't actually see. But these guys were cool too. :) |
After the reenactment, the Coast Guard did a rescue demonstration! |

Alaska or Bust!
Our ferry from Bellingham, Washington to Juneau, Alaska. |
setting up our tent on the deck of the ferry. |
ready for our first night......ha! |
bellingham, washington |
rain.... |
...rain |
After one night of crazy winds, rain and being flooded out of our tent the next day....we moved ourselves under the solarium. Still at the top, still outside, just covered our heads and had heating lamps. It was nice! Way better than a stinking claustrophobic cabin!! |
ha! ha! We had about a 30 minute stop in Wrangell. It was well spent. ;) |
We made it to Juneau at about 3 o'clock in the morning. Unloaded. Waited 5 hours in the parking lot at the ferry terminal. Then boarded the Fairweather, the fast (and newer) ferry that took us on our last leg.....to Sitka!! |
This ferry was much nicer...clean...bright....lovely. |
Our HOME!!!! Well....the top floor! |
view from the front door |
Our very own Swan Lake across the street...full of ducks. :) |
Still Swan Lake. Right across the street from our apartment. Did I say that already? OH, well it is. |
Our street. At the roundabout. The busiest intersection in town. :) I love Sitka! |
View from our kitchen. Granted, I am conveniently cutting out the apartment complex right next door. :) |
Trevor and our monster friend, Chris, all dressed up for a Saturday at the Boys and Girls' club. |
My new place of work. :) |
